I love playing video games. In fact, I love the recent release from the Fallout series. Fallout 5 really blew my mind. It’s like you stepped into a movie and instead of just watching somebody’s script being acted by professional actors, you yourself are acting out the script. It’s as if you entered some sort of alternate reality and you have a direct role to play in changing what you can see, hear, touch, taste, feel and smell.
It really is quite liberating in so many levels, but here’s the dark side. As we have covered here in the doom movie blog, sometimes, video games are so powerful because they trigger some internal issues with us. Maybe there’s some sort of traumatic past experience that you just can’t get over. Maybe there are certain psychological issues that you can’t quite put your finger on.
Whatever the case may be, these external stimuli triggers something inside you that you really can’t quite control, predict or otherwise, manage. It’s kind of like having a dragon awaken deep within you.
Unfortunately, the more I play video games, the more my anxiety issues get worse. In fact, I would rather play Red Dead Redemption, World of Warcraft, Grand Theft Auto V, Fallout 5, and other similar games rather than to go out there and rub shoulders with people.
You may be thinking that you want to maximize your time playing those games. But, if it becomes a habit, you no longer want to socialize. You feel like you don’t have the skills, the patience and the predisposition to deal with ups and downs of the social signals that you bounce back and forth when you talk to people in a person to person basis.
This creates some sort of negative feedback loop and it really drags you down. It doesn’t really matter how social you were before you got hooked on video games, but believe me. You’ll get worse and worse.
I finally decided to break free from video games in a very interesting way. I would use aromatic massage oils to change my mood and push me to become more social. I also took a sales job.
As you probably already know, when you work in sales, you have to be social. It doesn’t matter how introspective you are, whether you’re a person who’s more comfortable with ideas than with people, you have to go out there. You have to pump the flesh. You have to meet people face to face.
In other words, you have to connect. I gave myself 45 days to break out of my shell in a deep, profound and immediate way. And believe me, it has been awesome. For 45 days, I haven’t played a video game. For 45 days, I enjoyed people’s company.
Sure it was kind of awkward in the beginning. My social skills kind of atrophied for the longest time thanks to 8 hours of solid Grand Theft Auto V playing.
Eventually, thanks to the massage oils that I was using, I actually preferred being with people. I preferred talking to strangers. How was I able to do this?
Well, first of all, I had to decide. I just had to commit that this will happen. It’s not a question of if but when. After I got over that hurdle, I invested in the best oils available in the market.
When I went to stoners zone, I got the best oils and I mixed and matched them. After enough experiments and trial and error, I was able to use the right combination to get the results that I was looking for. That’s how I was able to get out from under the depression and anxiety mental chemicals stew that I was in. If I can do it, you can do it too.
