The great thing about Doom, the video game, and Doom, the movie, is that you know that it’s a game. You know that it’s contrived. You know that if follows some sort of formula. At the end of the day, it’s all fun and games. That’s what is so awesome about games-throughout the experience you know that it isn’t real and sooner or later you will go back to the rest of your life.
There’s a tremendous amount of drama, mind you. And in many cases, sometimes things get too close for comfort, but at the end of the day, you know somehow, some way, that this is just a game.
Unfortunately, in many areas of your life, you don’t get this luxury. You really don’t. There are lots of things that you need to decide where the consequences are quite significant. In fact, if you make the wrong call in certain aspects of your life, the fallout might even come close to being tragic. Talk about pressure. Talk about dealing with a tremendous amount of pressure. Now, a lot of this is obvious and self-evident. However, interestingly enough, for a large chunk of issues we think are crucial-we read into them their ‘do or die’ quality.
I don’t want to sound alarmist here, I definitely don’t want to give you the impression that I’m overreacting, but until and unless you achieve some level of emotional urgency regarding certain things in your life, you’re going to drop the ball. You’re going to make the wrong decisions over and over again, and these wrong decisions can come to haunt you.
For example, if you’re looking for the very best solar panel, don’t think that it’s a cakewalk. Don’t think that it’s just a matter of you listening to your friends, and they refer you to a brand, and you go to a website that stocks that brand, pick out their models, whip out your credit card, and you call it a day.
I wish it were that easy. Seriously. But the problem is, people just go through the motions and, at the end of the day, they find out that they bought the wrong product.
The reason why this is the case is because they think that the best solar panel for one person is the best solar panel for everybody else. And unfortunately, this is not the case. Seriously. This isn’t the case with this type of solar equipment, and this is not the case with any kind of product because what makes sense to somebody that you don’t know may not make sense to you.
Everybody has different sets of circumstances. Everybody definitely has different needs. So it doesn’t really make any sense to just blindly go with one person’s product idea because they said so. Keep this in mind if you’re trying to wrap your mind around the right product selection. It’s not as easy as you think. It is definitely no game.
